CATIA LOPES
I am an experienced Psychologist & Psychotherapist, specialising in Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
I combine my academic expertise with the practical clinical experience that I have obtained from many years of working in the public and private sectors in London and in Brazil. I have also spent several years doing voluntary work at a Counselling service centre and Multi-ethnic community centre in South London.I work with both adults and adolescents in a private practice and online, via Skype, Facetime or WhatsApp.
My qualifications include a BACP accredited advanced diploma in Humanistic and Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy, a BA in Psychology with Counselling Skills and an advanced diploma in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I am a member of BPS (The British Psychological Society) and BACP (The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy).
PSYCHOTHERAPY
Psychotherapy offers a neutral, safe and confidential space to explore all kinds of mental, emotional and psychological issues that you may be experiencing in your life. It allows for a deep exploration of life themes, and a chance to be understood and to understand yourself more truly and more clearly.
Humanistic Integrative Psychotherapy acknowledges that different clients have different needs and believes that no one single approach to psychotherapy is sufficient. It is inspired by a range of creative theories which encompasses the contributions of Humanistic and Existential Psychology, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and Transpersonal Psychology. What uniquely characterises this approach to psychotherapy is the commitment to work with the full range of influences that inform the development of the individual and their relationship to others and society. This approach recognises that the quality of the therapeutic relationship, rather than any one particular theoretical orientation, is the most important aspect of successful therapeutic work.
As an integrative psychotherapist, I continually absorb into my work and thinking different areas of specialism and expertise, and use this breadth of thinking in helping my clients relate to themselves and to their own potential for living fully. Humanistic Integrative Counselling is an approach that systematically considers the whole person – mind, body and spirit.
A very important part of psychotherapy is the therapeutic relationship taking place in the psychotherapy room. I understand how daunting the whole psychotherapy process can be to the client and so choosing the right psychotherapist to work with is of critical importance. Please feel free to contact me and I would be happy to answer any of your questions or concerns.

HOW CONFIDENTIAL IS COUNSELLING?
I aim to provide a safe, comfortable and confidential setting for my clients. All sessions will be private and confidential. Confidentiality is maintained within the ethical and practice guidelines of BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy).
WHAT TO EXPECT
In therapy we will discuss your problems and how they are currently affecting you. My work will consist of walking with you through the discoveries, experiences and emotions of the past, in the here and now, targeting self-awareness and searching for a healthier way of living.
My main goal is to provide a non-judgmental, comprehensive and safe environment for my clients, thus creating the existence of a trusting therapist-patient relationship.
How long is a session?
A session will last 50 minutes and will normally be on the same day and time each week, as discussed and agreed during our first session.
How many sessions will you need?
The number of sessions will vary from person to person according to the nature of present issues and the depth to which you would like to explore these.
APPOINTMENTS & FEES
The initial consultation is an opportunity for you to get an idea about what therapy is like. It is also a chance to ask any questions and to decide whether or not psychotherapy is something you would like to pursue.
- The fee for this introductory 50 minutes consultation is a reduced one of £50
- Fees for further Psychotherapy sessions will vary between £60- £70. Depending on the location of the session (face to face or online).
Online Sessions: Online sessions can be conducted via FaceTime or Skype. In response to the current COVID-19 situation and the need to keep my clients and families as safe as possible, I am encouraging clients to embrace online sessions. Besides, the obvious benefit of these are that it saves you time and money travelling to and from appointments and they can be done from the comfort of your own home.
